Tian'anmen Rostrum is located in the center of Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China, at the southern end of the Forbidden City. It faces Tiananmen Square and the Monument to the People's Heroes, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, the Great Hall of the People and the National Museum of China across Chang'an Street. It covers an area of 4,800. The square meter is distinguished by the outstanding architectural art and special political status.
Tian'anmen Rostrum is the main entrance of the Imperial City of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was built in the fifteenth year of Yongle (1417) of the Ming Dynasty. It was originally named "Chengtianmen". The designer was the Ming Dynasty master architect Yu Xiang, Shunzhi Eight of the Qing Dynasty. Year (1651) was renamed Tiananmen.
Tian'anmen Rostrum is composed of two parts, the city platform and the city tower. There is a white marble stone, the total height is 34.7 meters. The Tiananmen Gate is 66 meters long and 37 meters wide. There are five voucher gates under the city platform. The ticket gate in the middle is the largest. It is located on the central axis of Beijing Imperial City. In the past, only the emperor could enter and exit. Mao Zedong's portrait is hung above the middle gate, and the two sides are the slogans of "Long live the People's Republic of China" and "Long live the great unity of the people of the world."
In the fourteenth year of the Republic of China (1925), the Palace Museum was established on October 10, and Tiananmen Square began to open to the public. On October 1, 1949, the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China was held here, which was designed into the national emblem and became a symbol of the People's Republic of China. In 1961, the State Council of the People's Republic of China was announced as one of the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
A pair of huge stone lions are placed in the north and south of Jinshui Bridge in front of Tiananmen Square. These four white jade lions are exquisitely carved. The stone lion's material is a stone with a uniform grayish green spot in the gray and white, which is resistant to natural weathering. The stone lion is carved from a single piece of stone. The shape, size and engraving are the same. It embodies the carving process of the Ming Dynasty and is the representative of the northern stone lion.
Located in the center of Beijing, Tiananmen Square is 880 meters long from north to south, 500 meters wide from east to west, and covers an area of 440,000 square meters. It can accommodate 1 million people for a grand gathering. It is the largest city square in the world today.
